Where and how do I begin to expound. It's been a while and a lot has been festering inside my menopausal brain.
The socialization of health care would probably be first on my list of issues. I attended the Million Med March in Chicago Saturday, and was encouraged to hear intelligent speakers - disappointed to see a low turnout. As a woman fast approaching the the Medicare years, I am really concerned - not for my own health care - but for what this incredible mess of legislation will cost my children and grandchildren. As someone who has consistently voted Republican, I have to admire the Democrats and their "waste no time - do it now" posture. When Republicans had the opportunity, they chose to do nothing about health care and insurance in this country. Now we pay for that inaction BIG TIME.
I wish I could see a brighter future, and a rising star to vote for in the next presidential election, but I don't. Newt and his personal baggage, and willingness to embrace a liberal in sheep's clothing in New York bothers me. Sarah Palin is a a fine woman, but I don't know that she would be the right pick to run. Huckabee...no. Today I found myself fondly recalling Ronald Reagan and his bold stand against the air traffic controllers when they decided to go on strike. My husband and I wistfully recounting Reagan's actions to our 28 year old daughter as proof that once upon a time Republican's with a spine existed.
Because I tend to have a lot of angst and internal anger about the state of the world, I spend a lot of time praying and reading the Bible. As a Christian it keeps me grounded in the reality that God is still in control of all things. I really struggle and pray to have the mind, eyes and heart of Christ when looking at my world. I have also begun to be more active in speaking out to my representatives (to my husband's dismay). I am convinced that we are called as people of God to make a difference in this world in many ways.
1 Chronicles 29:11 "Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all."
His Will be done.
